Dr. Barry Cole
Village Animal Hospital
1340 Palm Bay Road
Palm Bay, FL 32905
407-725-9770

Dr. Cole has been my vet since I moved to the area 15 years ago. He'd been
my basset hound, Bo's vet for 10 1/2 years. He got Bo through 3 chocolate
binges, an attack of pancretis, and finally......he helped Bo through the
stages of an aggressive cancer. How do you explain how good a vet
is......when he was dealing with a dog who never, never expressed pain...not
a whelp or even a pout. Bo was had to have been in serious pain before he
was diagnosed with cancer......but never ever let on........and still Dr.
Cole really observed and listened to his patient. Dr. Cole was also there
for us when we decided to get another basset....he talked to us very frankly
and with such care. Dr. Cole is a true gem for any animal............especially the stubborn and often silly basset hound.

Belleair Bluffs, FL

Comments: I would like to recommend the following doctors at Bluffs Animal Hospital near Clearwater, Florida for being wonderful Basset vets. They have been taking care of our Bassets for over 10 years and our Afghans for over 12
years, they certainly know their hounds and we wouldn't trust our guys to
any one else. They have been used in the St. Petersburg Times vet advice
column, and have been featured on a TV show regarding emergency vets (they
offer 24 hour emergency service). Dr. Gibson is a Basset owner and they are
all terrific caring individuals with an excellent office staff. Not to
mention the fact that a couple of them are Florida Gators.

Brentwood Animal Hospital
Dr. P.C. Hightman
4605 Brentwood Avenue
Jacksonville, FL 32206
(904) 354-0547

Comments: Our wonderful three-year old Bassett, "Oscar" suddenly developed Immune Deficiency Syndrome after he received his annual vaccinations (From another vet).
Within months, he was dying..and so were our hearts. He suffered from chronic pneumonia and every bug that came along. We sought out Vet Schools in Florida and New York and all between searching for a Vet who could help. Everyone wrote him off and prepared us to lose him. Oscar was losing weight fast and begged us to help him with those soulful Bassett eyes.
Then our groomer suggested Dr. P.C. Hightman DVM of Brentwood Animal Clinic 4605 Brentwood Avenue, Jacksonville, Florida 32206. Phone: (904) 354-0547. Dr. Hightman combines western Vet medicine (University of Florida grad) with eastern thought (Chinese herbs, holistic practice and acupuncture). Yes, we were skeptical too...but believe us... this vet saved our Bassett's life!
In a few very short weeks, our "Oscar" was on his way back to us. Bright eyes, healed lungs, boosted immune system, happy dog. That was two years ago and we are so grateful to have our Oscar as part of our family. Dr. Hightman continues to amaze us. We meet pet-owners from Georgia who drive to Jacksonville for this special vet's care.
When Oscar was so very sick, I left messages on many boards trying to find someone who knew of a vet to help us. I'm glad to post this note now. We have our dog-child Oscar back and we are cheerleaders for this wonderful vet and his skill!

Our Basset, Daisy, was rescued from the Humane Society at the age of 16 months. We had never had a Basset before, but we were totally captivated by her.  Dr. Oyer has taken a fancy to her, also.  He is just wonderful with her when we visit and on the few occasions when we have had to board her, she has been the "queen" of the "hotel".

nominated_by: Michael Gyduska & Slugbutt
comments: When Slugbutt woke up and could not put any weight on his front paw, I called Dr. Fellman, and despite the hectic schedule of surgeries and office hours she had, she told us to come in immediatly. She knew Slugbutt didn't like being on the exam table, she got right down on the floor with him, and made him feel comfortable, despite the pain. She examined him, and took X-rays, Sent him home with meds and orders for rest and quiet.Even tho' it was an emergency, we were only charged for a regular office visit and the X-rays. She has a soft spot for bassets, and Slugbutt in particular. Any time we need an appointment, she gets us in within a day. So if you are ever in Venice, and need a vet, please give them a call!
