Thanks Guys! Ty,Sadie,Sophia,Sasha and Sampson Dayton Williams|All Animal Pet Hospital|2809 S Spring Avenue|Sioux Falls|SD|57105|USA|605-339-9261||Heather Ellyson||The whole staff at All Animal Pet Hospital are great and it's easy to see that every single person that works there absolutely loves animals and loves what they do for a living! I now have a basset hound, Zues, that I have recently adopted from the Pound. He is 6 months old and just got neutered today. The staff took great care of him, and even spoiled him rotten with behind-the-ear-rubs all day. I choose them for my dog because they euthenized our beloved pet rat, Sally. A lot of people hate rats and only buy them for snake food. But, our pet rat meant the world to us. Unfortunately, she developed a very large tumor and couldn't walk very well. I chose a vet close to my home to put her to sleep. A few days later, I received a sympathy card signed by the whole staff. I don't think any other animal hospital could top that. The clinic has excellent equipment for doing everything from sonograms to chem panels to EKG, etc., etc. Will is very good about consulting with other vets, vet schools, whatever resources he can if he has questions. He also does his own emergency calls. Gardendale is in the Midland/Odessa area. A little off the beaten track (North of I-20) but the best vet I know in the area. She has seen them through foreign diseases caught in Africa to routine check-ups to recently, helping me deal with an unfriendly surgeon who operated on one of my furkids in an emergency situation. Dr. Tammy loves bassets and everytime she sees one, immediately bends down to get licked all over the face. My furkids love going to her. She works in a small town outside of Ames, IA, but is often booked days or weeks in advance since people from all over the area travel to her clinic. She is reknowned for friendliness, compassion and competence. I have since moved to the east coast, but I still try and arrange my vet visits to coincide with family visits to central Iowa. Dr. Mark Schmidt|Northwest Veterinary Hospital|7507 Dennis Drive|Urbandale|IA||USA|515-276-4549||Lynn and Linda Ferrell||Dr. Mark has a number of basset clients and saw us through the lifetime of our nearly 16 year old basset Annie (now at the bridge), who had chronic health problems. He'd been my basset hound, Bo's vet for 10 1/2 years. He got Bo through 3 chocolate binges, an attack of pancretis, and finally......he helped Bo through the stages of an aggressive cancer. How do you explain how good a vet is......when he was dealing with a dog who never, never expressed pain...not a whelp or even a pout. Bo was had to have been in serious pain before he was diagnosed with cancer......but never ever let on........and still Dr. Cole really observed and listened to his patient. Dr. Cole was also there for us when we decided to get another basset....he talked to us very frankly and with such care. Within months, he was dying..and so were our hearts. He suffered from chronic pneumonia and every bug that came along. We sought out Vet Schools in Florida and New York and all between searching for a Vet who could help. Everyone wrote him off and prepared us to lose him. Oscar was losing weight fast and begged us to help him with those soulful Bassett eyes. Then our groomer suggested Dr. P.C. Hightman DVM of Brentwood Animal Clinic 4605 Brentwood Avenue, Jacksonville, Florida 32206. Phone: (904) 354-0547. Dr. Hightman combines western Vet medicine (University of Florida grad) with eastern thought (Chinese herbs, holistic practice and acupuncture). Yes, we were skeptical too...but believe us... this vet saved our Bassett's life! In a few very short weeks, our "Oscar" was on his way back to us. Bright eyes, healed lungs, boosted immune system, happy dog. That was two years ago and we are so grateful to have our Oscar as part of our family. Dr. Hightman continues to amaze us. We meet pet-owners from Georgia who drive to Jacksonville for this special vet's care. When Oscar was so very sick, I left messages on many boards trying to find someone who knew of a vet to help us. I'm glad to post this note now. We have our dog-child Oscar back and we are cheerleaders for this wonderful vet and his skill! Dr. Dennis Oyer|Coral Vet Clinic|9540 Cypress Lake Dr|Ft. She examined him, and took X-rays, Sent him home with meds and orders for rest and quiet.Even tho' it was an emergency, we were only charged for a regular office visit and the X-rays. Dr. Snead, Dr. Clouse, Dr. Wilson|Twin Maples Veterinary Hospital, Inc.|3646 Watertower Lane|West Carrolltown|OH|45449|USA|937-866-5949||||We have been going to this vet clinic since 1991. This group truly is unbelievably caring and good! When we painfully had to put our little girl basset, Bessie, to sleep from cancer March 17, they did everything they could for her and more. They even made a $ donation in her name to The Ohio Animal Health Foundation for improving the length and quality of life for companion animals. I do not know if they do this for all their clients that pass, but we had become a special team with them in her care and the care of my other two bassets...Roosevelt and Hoover. I would recommend them to anyone with a pet, not just the bassets. The have a no hit policy....cure with science, patience, and love! They have also won the Small Business Awards for our area. Drs. All of the foster bassets with Ohio Basset Hound Rescue that come to the central Ohio area are taken to this veterinary facility. This is a kind, affectionate group of people. Aside from the veterinary facility, there also is a grooming facility and boarding kennel all within the same building. OBR has used them for both grooming and boarding as well. This is a first rate facility from the veterinarians, to the technicians, down to the kennel staff. Everyone there is very familiar with rescue work and supports the cause. At Christmas time I added them to the hero list, they received so many cards from daily droolers that people started to ask them if they were a basset vet only. They also have two other facilities in central Ohio that are owned by the same people, just different veterinarians at each facility: Animal Care Center at Mill Run, and the Animal Care Center at Cherry Way. Dr. Tillman has been more than generous and caring with our own Bassets as well as the foster Bassets we care for with Ohio Basset Hound Rescue. He has been honest when our Bassets, Max and Molly, were ill and very knowledgeable. We can't think of a better vet to care for our beloved pets. He has also worked very hard to assist in the building of our new humane society. Dr. Emily Coatney-Smith|Far Hills Animal Clinic, Inc.|6240 Far Hills Ave|Dayton|OH||USA|937-434-8224||Amy L. Kimble||We recently had a great experience with our vet in a not so great situation. Dr. Emily Coatney-Smith has been a great relief to us. We had a huge water leak in our apartment that made our basset sick. She caught the enlarged spleen when we took him in for an infected paw. She later found problems with his lungs and an enlarged heart. She has called us every day to check on him, she even had someone swab our apartment for a testing lab and sent it so that we can bring charges up against our landlord. Sherlock just had his spleen taken out this week. Dr. Emily knew we missed him and released him early with careful instructions. She calls twice a day to check on him. This woman is a saint when it comes to bassets. And although we aren't so close to her after we moved, I'd drive hours to leave Sherlock in her care. I'm not sure who nominated him, but being from WV, I happened to look at the WV basset-nominated vets one day & saw his name. My father lives in WV and ironically enough takes his Pointer to Dr. Yurko. I live in MD, but when my basset had problems with his back legs & my vet here kept dismissing it as nothing, I called Dr. Yurko since he knows my father. And he was nice enough to go out of his way & give a possible diagnosis and remedy for Tex. Sure enough within a week, Tex was cured of his lameness, all because a man I'd never 400 miles away cares enough about bassets to help out! His rapid and accurate diagnosis, along with prescribed treatment, enabled us to restore him to health. This ensured peace of mind while providing us with guidelines to follow when symptoms reappeared. Because of this, I was able to assist another family whose young basset exhibited similar symptoms and guide them towards proper diagnosis with their vet. Dr. White was also instrumental in identifying a mis-diagnosis by another vet who wanted to terminate the life of our first basset, Lucy. Dr J.J. A slight quivering can mean that he has found the sore muscle causing the limp. Mainly he can do almost anything without fear of reaction. Actually there are two vets at the Glen Moore Vet. Hospital. Doctors Tremoglie and Lindquist are very good and do not waste money on lots of tests. I highly recommend him: Dr. Lynch has a female vet with him...I can't stand her...name is Dr. Oster..she's from Czechovokia...very cold and abrupt...most people, me included, can't understand a word she says, because she babbles on a mile a minute...never smiles, never reassures...Make sure any new people use Dr. Lynch ONLY...and they can use my name. She is extremely compassionate as are all the others. Of all the years of owning animals, I have never recalled any other animal hospital be so wonderful with dogs. they take there time with treating your pet and are always very thorough with explaining things to you. the best thing about marlton animal hospital, is that they greet your pet in the waiting room with a big smile and come and get them as if they are coming out to get a human in an actual doctors office. secondly, I think it is absolutely wonderful that they get down on the floor with your pet and not place them on the table. they will if necessary, but by not doing this and a quick exam it makes the overall experiece for your pet a lot less stressful. my vet could see my dog was terrified so what she did to ease his stress was sit on the floor and temp him with treat so she could form a trusting bond with him. eventually that did take place and he aloud her to exam him without a mussle which is a first ever for him. this is my husbands dog who finally left where he was going to go to marlton. after seeing how they treated Monty it didn't take much of an effort to get my husband to switch vet practices. He helped us keep them very energetic and frisky until the last week of theis lives when they just couldn't go any longer. He was so kind and understanding at the end too. When Bandit adopted us 4 years ago, Dr. Bailey provided Bandit with a thorough check-up (probably his first) and only charged us for the medicine Bandit needed. Dr. Bailey could tell that Bandit had not been properly taken care of and I think he was gratified to offer the help Bandit needed. He always loves to see our kids and I believe his affection for Bassets is genuine. If only human doctors had as much compassion. He also happens to be a great boss to work for! Dr. Swartz is the owner of Clocktower Animal Hospital in Herndon, VA. We have been unable to find a vet that we like even half as much at our new home. Even since we moved, Dr. Smith has helped us a couple times when I couldn't find answers here. Jake, my basset, loved to go there. When we got to door his tail would be wagging away. When we walked in, he headed right behind the counter looking for the love and bellyrubs that he knew he was sure to get. Our "kids" were always treated with caring and compassion. We would highly recommend Dr. Smith and her crew to anyone. Please note that Dr. Smith has moved and is no longer at the address given in your listing. We took our limping Basset to her and found her much more attune to his problem thatn our regular vet who is wonderful with our cats, but just not aware of Basset special needs. Dr. Bob caught this early enough that she didn't lose a foot. They are generous with time and advice, on the phone or in person. They are also extremely generous to rescue, discounting services for foster dogs substantially.

They are, basically, an basic veterinary practice. Some things, like ultrasounds, etc...have to be referred out. This helps them keep their costs lower, since their overhead is lower. There is an excellent, full service critical care clinic that provides these additional services only a few miles away. They are spendy, but good when you need them - it's the Puget Sound Pet Pavilion.

For everyday vet care, including surgeries, and emergency care as well as exams, diagnostics, etc...I can't say enough good things about Edgewood....

They are great at follow-up, they explain test results, spend lots of time with you and your dog, are always willing to answer questions, and they were the ones who "caught" Annabelle's glaucoma early. And, he has lots of bassets in his practice, so he is familiar with things like pano, ear problems, etc. Dr. Harvey, also at Sugar Hill, is another great vet. ||Wonderful manner with animals, and very knowledgeable re: potential genetic defects in bassets, as well as their characteristics--difficulty to housebreak, etc. Also has a WONDERFUL no-pain philosophy--will not dock or crop ears/tails of ANY breed, nor put down any animal for owner's convenience. The vet gives really good shots (the dogs hardly seem to notice it) and he is really thorough and gentle in doing his examinations. The bassets actually seem to like going to the vet! He is really fair to the "food slaves" too - he doesn't try to take advantage of you by ordering expensive and unnecessary tests. He really investigates the cause of whatever ails your basset! He has lots of basset patients, too, as we know he treats at least two other bassets that live in the area. We highly recommend Dr. Howlett and the staff at Belle Rive Pet Hospital - they're awesome. After 2 days of trying to get him adjusted on the meds, we ended up having to do the best thing for him, putting him down. Cost of the neutering and shots, the bill came to $175.00. This did not cover the cost of the meds and them trying to get him regulated. They tore up the check. They liked him so much and were thrilled that we were rescuing him.
