Dr. Thomas Bailey
Battlefield Veterinary Hospital
2779 Charles City Road
Richmond, Va. 23231
(Richmond's East-End)
(804)222-1370
Nominator: Dave & Pam Spiers
Comments: Dr. Bailey has been our exclusive health provider for George, Lucy & Bandit for 10 years. When Bandit adopted us 4 years ago, Dr. Bailey provided Bandit with a thorough check-up (probably his first) and only charged us for the
medicine Bandit needed. Dr. Bailey could tell that Bandit had not been properly taken care of and I think he was gratified to offer the help Bandit needed. He always loves to see our kids and I believe his affection for Bassets is genuine. The vet hospital also mails us reminder cards whenever the kids are due for check-ups or shots (yes, they have better health-care than we do).Dr. R.B. Chenault

Dr. Tom Fore
Ambassador Veterinary Hospital
6506 W. Broad Street,
Richmond, VA
804-282-4215).Comments: When I did have my basset (named Meaghan), he did a superb job in working with her, even to the point of getting "down on her level" to work with her (and he's a rather tall gentleman).
I'm now finally getting closer to being able to get another basset, and I
will take my new basset to Dr. Tom Fore as well - because he really did take
the extra time and effort to make sure that Meaghan received top quality
care. This guy is the epitome of what vets should be. Please add him
to the list of "basset-friendly" vets for the Richmond, VA area.......Clocktower Animal Hospital

I want to nominate Dr. Bill Swartz as an absolutely fantastic Basset Vet!
Not only is his knowledge superior, but he has more compassion than anyone
you would ever met. On our first visit, he spent lots of time getting to know
my bassets personality and making him feel comfortable during our visit,
while doing a thorough examination. If only human doctors had as much
compassion. He also happens to be a great boss to work for!Dr. Swartz is the owner of Clocktower Animal Hospital in Herndon, VA.
The other vets on the staff are also terrific with bassets: Dr. Matt
Browning, Dr. Leslie Moore, Dr. Diane Panopoulos, Dr. Jennifer Schneider.Nominated by Annica Sandberg and Napoleon
Robert J. Orrell
Hilltop Veterinary Clinic

Virginia Beach VA 23454
757-425-2011
Nominated by: Julie Lohman
Comments: I have owned Bassets and Dachshunds for 39 years. During this time I have had various veterinarians. I have to say, without a doubt, that Dr. Orrell is the most proficient and caring veterinarian I have ever had the pleasure to do business with.
Melanie Smith
Hometown Veteinary Clinic
6137 Franconia Road
Alexandria VA 22310
703-922-9861
comments: Please note that Dr. Smith has moved and is no longer at the address given in your listing. We took our limping Basset to her and found her much more attune to his problem thatn our regular vet who is wonderful with our cats, but just not aware of Basset special needs.
Nominated by: Sharon and Jake Moon
Comments: When we were living in Virginia, we knew that we liked Dr. Smith and her associates, what we didn't know was, just lucky we were. We have been unable to find a vet that we like even half as much at our new home. Even since we moved, Dr. Smith has helped us a couple times when I couldn't find answers here. Jake, my basset, loved to go there. When we got to door his tail would be wagging away. When we walked in, he headed right behind the counter looking for the love and bellyrubs that he knew he was sure to get. Our "kids" were always treated with caring and compassion. We would highly recommend Dr. Smith and her crew to anyone.
