To Nominate your Favorite Basset Friendly Veterinarian, please fill out the following form:
Alabama
Dr. Ken Jordan or Lee Phillips
Small Animal Clinic
3250 Hillcrest Road, Mobile, AL 36695
251-661-4599
Dr.s Jordan and Phillips are true rescue friendly, and very basset knowledgable vets, who we have used on ours for 15 years. They are the vets for BHRA in the Southern Alabama area always helping with a rescue discount, giving immediate appointments etc., and over the years have helped untold numbers of shelter pulls for us. They truly understand the basset body, and the quirks peculiar to the breed. I couldn't imagine not using them for all of our dogs!
• Nominated by: Helen Hocking (back to top map)Dr.Andy Duke
Duke Animal Hospital
1962 Schillinger Rd.A. Mobile, AL 36695
251-633-9633
Dr. Duke is a fantastic vet--he works closely with rescue--he makes house calls, he hires Bedsole scholars to work in his clinic, and he plays a mean saxophone! He is very knowledgeable about bassets and their health issues. He is never too busy to talk to you about your animals. He is loving with them, as is his staff.

Dr. Craig Brown
Look Ahead Veterinary Services
1451 Clark Rd, Oroville, CA
530-534-0722
Dr. Brown is awesome with my gang and the fosters I bring in. He gets down in the floor and spends time listening to the worried slaves. Dr. B primary concern is his patients and not the amount of money he can make. He is also open to natural and holistic treatments which is a plus.
This is also a small and large veterinary clinic so if you have other fur members then this is a one stop vet clinic.
My gang adore Dr. Brown and so do I!
• Nominated by: Karen Metcalf (back to top map)Young Kim, D.V.M.
Roswinn Pet Hospital
20021 Roscoe Blvd., Canoga Park, CA 91306
(818) 718-2112
We were referred to Dr. Kim by Dawn of the West from Daphneyland. He has been wonderful with our two rescues, Hank & Desi. He is a kind and patient doctor who truly loves what he does. When our Lucy was sick, he looked after her and spent day and night during the New Year's holiday (while everyone else on his staff was gone)looking after her at his clinic trying desperately to figure out what was wrong. When we arrived to see her after a few days, there was a table and a chair sitting right in front of her cage with stacks of veterinary books that he had been poring through hoping to find an answer. Unfortunately, she ended up being diagnosed with stomach cancer and we returned to him to help us send her peacefully on her way to the bridge. He charged us a fraction of what it would have normally cost for a week of 24/7 care. He is an extaordinary doctor and we highly recommend him.

• Nominated by: Marlene Worne (back to top map)Colorado Dr. Jeri Holland
Neighborhood Pet Care Center
5856 S Lowell Blvd. Littleton, CO
303-797-8461
I have been taking Janie Anne to Dr. Jeri for around 3 1/2 years and Siobhan for the year she's been with me.
Jeri has had as many as 6 Bassets of her own and truly knows the breed.
The assistants and tech's at the center are wonderful people who are well educated and are the "Best".
I've referred many people to Dr. Jeri and have always heard glowing words for her work.
Last year or so, Jeri was approved by the High Country Basset Hound Rescue and she has taken care of every "foster" we've had.
• Nominated by: Bill Armstrong (back to top map)Florida
Dr. Kevin Stoothoff
South Ocala Animal Clinic
3760 SE Lake Weir Road, Ocala, FL 344717
(352) 622-5253
Dr. Kevin worked at another clinic across town for several years, and he would check out Suncoast bassets' rescues after we picked them up. He has become an "expert" in basset ways and about their health over the years, and two years ago took over the practice of a retiring vet about a mile from my hound house!
he is kind, gentle, and a true friend of animals-his staff is also the best they truly are- he runs a free clinic for homeless folks' hounds In Ocala with a grant he got from Purina and our donations. When one of my fosters found some rat poison at 4:00 am, Dr. Kevin answered the phone and told me to bring her down immediately-we did, and he saved her life! when it is time for one of my senior bassets to go to the Bridge, the entire staff is there with us being supportive and feeling the sadness. He is a true basset buddy.

He has been my vet for almost 10 years and 6 bassets, I wouldn't take them anywhere else. They are ver knowledgable about Bassets. Several vets on staff
Blayney Vet Clinic
3825 East Cleveland Blvd, Caldwell, ID
208-459-6167
Comment This is an excellent vet clinic for basset care. I have been taking my bassets there for well over 20 years. They see my puppies, stud dogs, bitches and pets for any and everything I've needed care for. One of my bitches developed pyometra following a surgical AI perforemd by a clinic in another town that specializes in breeding related issues. After spending huge amounts for their care, she was still not improving. I picked her up and took her to Blayney Vet and they not only treated her successfully but I was able to breed her on her next heat successfully. They provide care for all types of livestock as well as dogs and cats and other small animals. I have used them for my pygmy goats and cats too. I know they have quite a few clients with basset hounds..

Dr. Jill Sackash
Veterinary Services
905 West Gump Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46845-9390

Jill is a great vet - and I would trust her with any of my animals. When our first Basset Hound died of a sudden hyglycemia, she did exploratory surgery, found that nothing could be done and then cried with my husband when Mercy died. She's the one who suggested tacking the girls' stomachs so that they couldn't twist if they bloated. She's a wonderful vet and I highly recommend her.

PetSound Animal Hospital

We met Dr. Monce through the basset hound rescue that we adopted our Jersey from. He is all about rescue and is the vet for a number of rescue organizations in our area including our basset rescue. We like him because he's very professional and straightforward. He lets you know what your options are but doesn't push for the more involved treatments when simpler methods will work. He takes care of our four Houndettes and he's great with our cats, too.
